The ISO certifications in the naval industry

The customer orientation, the respect for the environment and the workers security are three of SYM Naval’s vital commitments.

The implementation and continuous improvement of these principles help us to optimize our performance, and that’s why we have three ISO certifications issued by Bureau Veritas for ship builders, converters and repairers and technical offices in naval engineering. The three of them are transversally integrated in all our activities and projects.

The observance of the ISO norms is voluntary and confirms SYM Naval’s commitment with excellence. This way, we can communicate it to the interested parties with certifications that are endorsed by official organisms from more than 35 countries as a warrant of the quality, safety and reliability of our products and services.

In this effort to perfect our processes, we have chosen Bureau Veritas as a partner. Bureau Veritas is the world leader in certified norms and has helped more than 60,000 businesses to certify the quality of their management systems. Moreover, it counts with a specialised naval division that offers the highest guarantees in our expertise area, also adding the value of an independent evaluation that issues an internationally renowned certificate.

Quality management system ISO 9001:2015

Our customers need a high quality standard in the products they purchase and the services they contract. The orientation towards quality prepares an organisation to make profit from the new opportunities that show up in the market.

The ISO norm 9001:2015 is based on the eight fundamental principles of the quality management:

Environmental management system ISO 14001:2015

Achieving a balance between the environmental respect, the social interests and the economy is essential to satisfy the current needs without putting at risk those of the future generations.

At SYM Naval we are committed to sustainable development and keep the environment as a priority in all our operations and facilities in Europe and the Caribbean, both on land and in the sea. We meet the highest environmental standards, involve our providers and perform actions of maintenance and cleaning that go beyond the minimum legal requirements.

The warranty of this commitment is the environmental management system certification ISO 14001:2015. This international norm provides us with a frame of reference to protect the environment and adapt to its changing conditions, avoiding the pollution and the inefficient use of resources, preventing the climatic change, the deterioration of the ecosystems and the loss of biodiversity.

In addition, we have introduced a continuous improvement process for the environmental performance that follows a PDVA pattern (Plan, Do, Verify and Act):

• Plan: establish all the environmental goals and the processes needed to meet them.
• Do: set up the processes.
• Verify: establish the monitoring processes that will measure the results.
• Act: take the right decisions to achieve a continuous improvement

Health and safety management system ISO 45001:2018

SYM Naval’s main assets is its human capital: a team of professionals, technicians and naval engineers with a great ability and experience in naval construction, who are committed to the development, the quality and efficiency.

Our workers’ health and well-being is one of the keys to our success. It is thus essential to provide a safe and healthy work environment, proactively foreseeing and avoiding the possible harms and injuries.

From March 2018, the international norm ISO 45001:2018 is the new standard for the health and safety management. It provides the right tools to reduce risks, accidents and illnesses related to the work in all the organization levels.

Implementing the ISO 45001:2018 is a strategic and operational decision that allows us to identify, analyze and evaluate the risks that affect our personnel. We count with a modern management system for the security at work designed to identify the dangers in our activity, protect the employees and take work security measures that are right for the specific requirements of the naval sector.
