Ports de la Generalitat visits the SYM Naval shipyard

This past week we had the pleasure of receiving in our facilities a small group of representatives from Ports de la Generalitat, a public company attached to the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat de Catalunya, as well as local personalities from the Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council, a coastal town in the Mediterranean where the SYM Naval shipyard is located.

Mr. Isidre Gavín, President of Ports de la Generalitat, Mr. Joan Pere Gómez, General Director, and Mr. Marc Casanovas, Territorial Manager of the Vilanova i la Geltrú Port Area, headed the visit of our shipyard to closely observe the evolution of the ship construction and repair works in progress. On behalf of the Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council, Mrs. Mayor Olga Arnau accompanied us on a visit that also served to receive full support for SYM Naval activities from public figures.

Throughout the day, we had the opportunity to show the facilities of our shipyard and make a brief presentation of the added value in R&D in construction, maintenance and reconversion of vessels, activities that we develop in the same port of Vilanova i la Geltrú, a few kilometers from Barcelona.

For their part, the representatives of Ports of the Generalitat continued with the visit to the surroundings of the port of Vilanova i la Geltrú after the formalization of an agreement with the Fishermen’s Association and the IMET (Institut Municipal d’Educació i Treball) to promote the technical training in the port area and strengthen the strategic position of the port as the economic engine of the area.

On the part of SYM Naval, we are very satisfied with the support received and we fully trust in the future development of the port area in which our shipyard is located and in the opportunities and synergies that may arise between all the actors involved.
